The aim of the project shown on this site is to explore and cagtalogue all possible 7 note scales using our western 12 note system, with a view to use them to create compositions.
To understand the information here, it is recommended that you first learn the basics of music pitch theory: note names, intervals, tones&semitones, major scales and modes. There is already a wealth of online information explaining these concepts if you are unfamiliar with them.

This site displays all of the possible 7 note scales, and organises them so that the modes of each scale are catalogued. Please note that these are only my designated names to make the system make sense to me (so take them with a pinch of salt). Where I could find existing names for them I have included them too.

The audio examples I included are extracts from compositions that explore each modes in tern of a particular 'master' scale.
